Who Will Emerge?

(St. Louis, MO) – Great Lakes Valley Conference teams still have much to play for. From top to bottom, the last three games can make or break several teams’ seasons.

Unknown-1The race in the East is simply amazing. Three nationally ranked teams are separated by one game, with three games to play. Every Division 2 fan in the country ought to be watching this race. Third ranked Bellarmine (22-2)(14-1), number 7 Indianapolis (21-2)(13-2) and 12th ranked Wisconsin-Parkside (22-2)(14-1) are battling for the East Division title. Those three and the West Division winner (Drury), will each have a first round bye in the GLVC tournament and don’t have to play a tournament game until the other four teams earn their way to St. Charles Family Arena.

If form holds, the only show down of the top teams will be Saturday when Bellarmine hosts Indianapolis. Other key games find Lewis (18-6)(10-5) visiting Parkside on 2/26 and Bellarmine entertains Southern Indiana (17-6)(10-5).

What of the other races? The next four teams in the race host a first round game of the tournament and the next four qualify for the tournament, but must play a road game to make it to St. Charles.

If the season ended today, Lewis, Southern Indiana, Truman State (17-8)(9-6) and Missouri St. Louis (16-9)(8-7) would host games.

The final four teams would include William Jewell and Quincy (both 6-9), Maryville (5-10), and whomever emerges from Illinois Springfield and McKendree (both 4-11) and St. Joseph’s (3-12).

Missouri St. Louis plays Quincy, Truman State and Maryville in their final three contests and will be a central player in their own destiny as well as that of their division rivals.

Whether they are just trying to qualify or hold on to a national ranking, there are 14 of the 16 GLVC teams that still have something to play for during the final three games of the season.
