Bigs In the Valley

Post Players Dominate Weekly Awards

(St. Louis, MO) – It hasn’t always been this way. The Missouri Valley Conference has become a home for outstanding post play and this week’s award winners are ‘bigs in the Valley’.

Bradley’s Elijah Childs was impressive. Southern Illinois’ Kyle Filewich continues to impress and Missouri State’s Gaige Prim is elite. None of those players won awards this week.

Loyola Chicago’s Cameron Krutwig

Krutwig has been named to a season-ending Valley ‘all-something’ team every year of his collegiate career. The 6’9 senior is leading LUC to historic heights and is climbing up the Rambler record books at the same time.

‘King Krut’ averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and five assists during Loyola’s sweep of Prim’s Bears. This is Krutwig’s second ‘Player of the Week‘ award and this week he moved into sixth place on the Rambler all-time scoring list.

Drake’s Darnell Brodie

When Liam Robbins transferred to Minnesota, many wrote off Drake’s Bulldogs. That was probably a mistake. Seton Hall transfer Darnell Brodie has filled in just fine for the nation’s twenty-fifth ranked team. The 6’10 junior has played well all season, but last week began to leap off the page.

During Drake’s sweep of Missouri State and Illinois State, Brodie recorded two double-doubles. Brodie is the Valley’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ and the Bulldogs (17-0, 8-0) have leapt on to both national polls. Teammate Shanquan Hemphill is a two-time winner of this award.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
