Canadians Win Both MVC Awards

Krikke & Filewich Honored

(St. Louis, MO) – For the first time in recent history two Canadian players have won the Missouri Valley Conference weekly awards. Each player accomplished some ‘firsts’ along the way.

Krikke’s Double-Double

Valparaiso’s Ben Krikke accomplished a rare feat. The 6’9 sophomore scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds during the Crusaders’ Sunday win at Illinois State. His 25/15 accomplishment was the Valley’s first in over four years. The Edmonton native is this week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ and helped Valpo to a 2-0 weekend in Normal, Illinois.

Krikke’s 12.1 point scoring average leads the Crusaders.

Fiewich’s First Start & Career High

Southern Illinois freshman Kyle Filewich made the most of his first career start. The 6’9 rookie scored a careeer-high 12 points during the Saluki’s narrow loss to Indiana State. The Winnipeg native grabbed four rebounds and is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
