Week Five OVC/MVC Award Winners

Shining Brightly as December Arrives

(St. Louis, MO) – Three different players seem to have a strangle hold on year-end awards as they continue to rack up weekly honors. The week five OVC/MVC award winners recorded impressive performances and boosted their respective teams’ successes.

During week five of the season, one player grabbed her fourth weekly honor and one picked up her third.

Eastern Illinois’ Macy McGlone is a double-double machine and last week the 6’3 forward posted three of those twin accomplishments. The junior is on an amazing six-game double-double game streak. This week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ averaged 20.3 points and fourteen rebounds during the Panthers’ 2-1 week. McGlone has earned this award in back-to-back weeks.

McGlone’s teammate Ellie Buzzelle is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘. Buzzelle averaged 10.7 points for the Panthers and is the OVC’s second most prolific three-point shooter (22).

Here in week five Western Illinois’ Raegan McCowan has earned four ‘Freshman of the Week‘ awards. The 5’11 rookie scored 25 points in one game and recorded twelve points and nine rebounds in the other. McCowan is the OVC’s second leading scorer (17.0) and fourth leading rebounder (6.9).

Twenty-seven points and 19 rebounds in one game will often earn you praise. For Evansville’s Barbora Tomancova it earned a ‘Player of the Week’ award. It’s the first time in eight seasons that a Valley player has reached those dual levels in one contest. This is the Purple Aces’ second weekly award winner. During week three Maggie Hartwig grabbed the freshman award.

During week five, Indiana State’s Kiley Bess earned her team’s first weekly individual award. Bess scored sixteen points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out three dimes during the Sycamore win over Southeast Missouri. Bess is the Valley’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘.

Jailyn Banks is a three-time winner of the Valley’s ‘Freshman of the Week‘ title. The Belmont rookie scored 16 points during the Bruins’ win over Lipscomb. Banks won the award for her work in week’s one and two of the season and now has turned the trick in week five.
