Great Lakes Valley

Shining Stars

(St. Louis, MO) – Veteran players reasserted their places in last week’s “Valleys” activities. No one was better than UM-St. Louis’ Aareon Smith. The Great Lakes Valley Conference school swept two games, and the Lafayette High School graduate set personal bests in scoring in back-to-back games.

Smith scored a career high 28 points in a win over Quincy, and topped that with 38 points in a Saturday victory at Truman State. The senior forward also cracked the 1,000 point plateau for his four seasons with the Tritons. For all that work, Smith was named the GLVC’s Player of the Week.

Wichita State guard Ron Baker picked up his third player of the week award in the Missouri Valley Conference for his overall floor game in the Shockers’ two wins. Baker averaged 15.5 points and 11 rebounds for the week. The junior went past the 1,000 point (1.066) the previous week.

Another recent 1,000 point (1,064) achiever, Craig Bradshaw took home the Ohio Valley Conference’s weekly honor. Bradshaw averaged 21 points and six rebounds in Belmont’s two wins. He led the Bruins in scoring in both victories that pushed Belmont into first place in the OVC East Division.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
