OVC Records Falling

Murphy and Brown Making Their Marks

(St. Louis, MO) – Records are falling in the Ohio Valley Conference. Belmont’s Grayson Murphy and Murray State’s Tevin Brown etched their names in the OVC annals. The two four-year players have been the picture of consistency and brilliance during their time in the 74-year-old conference. OVC records falling are becoming common place.

Neither player utilized a covid, fifth year to accomplish their records.

Murphy – King of the Dimes

On January 24 Murphy’s third assist broke the OVC assist record held by Eastern Kentucky’s Bruce Jones. He added two more that night for a conference career mark of 702 and obviously adds to it each game.

Belmont’s twitter page celebrated his accomplishment.

Murphy played in four Bruin games (2017-18) and ended up red-shirting. During his 120 collegiate games, he has dished out 720 dimes. His current averages of 7.5 ppg, 6..4 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game demonstrate his ‘team-first’ mentality. The 6’3 guard has been a rebounding and assist leader the past two seasons and is the defending OVC defensive player of the year.

He is thirteenth nationally on the steals list and 21st in steals. Murphy is currently fourth all-time on the OVC steals list and soon will move into third place. The Franklin, Tennessee native has collected 762 rebounds.

Brown – Long Distance King

Murray State claimed the mid-season lead in the OVC race during Saturday’s win over Morehead State. During that contest, Tevin Brown became the conference’s all-time leader in three-point baskets. His three triples Saturday pushed him past Joe Sibitts. His 320 bombs are the new OVC standard!

Obviously that number will grow. Murray’s twitter account celebrated his accomplishment.

He is currently eighth nationally in converted three-pointers.

Far from just a three-point specialist, Brown has grabbed over 500 rebounds and has handed out nearly 400 assists. He, too is one of the OVC’s top defenders.

Head coach Matt McMahon told goracers.com that Tevin Brown is a special player and person.

To sustain excellence for four years,” says McMahon. “He does a lot of other special things, but that is a special record. He’s the all-time three-point king of the OVC.

Brown is glad the climb is over.

I’m glad all of that is over with,” said Brown. “We can just focus on basketball and winning games. It’s a lot of attention on to it and I’m not the kind of person that wants a lot attention.
