One on One with Rob Ehsan

UIC Coach Prior to the Boardwalk Battle

(St. Louis, MO) – Illinois Chicago is off to a 3-1 start and after a close loss to Oregon State and a narrow victory over Chicago State, we go one 0n one with Rob Ehsan. The second-year Flames’ coach has a host of new players, implementing a new defensive system and is heading to Florida for the Boardwalk Battle.

NCAA Tournament qualifier High Point is the first team they’ll face in Daytona Beach.

While returner Ahmad Henderson II is the team’s leading scorer (16.8 mpg) and distributor (4.0 apg), two freshmen have also made an impact. Andy Johnson and Rashund Washington have been big contributors. Towson transfer Mekhi Lowery and holdover Jayce Nathaniel are playing important roles. Lowery is the Flames’ leading rebounder (6.3 per game) and Nathaniel is the team’s tallest player.

BYU transfer Elijah Crawford scored 13 points in the season opener, but has been out with an ankle injury since that time.

Ehsan says his team is employing a different defensive strategy. The Flames are a top-30 team nationally in turnovers forced per game.

UIC battles High Point in the Boardwalk Battle’s first round and then faces either Incarnate Word or Southern Indiana.

During our one on one with coach Ehsan we discussed his desire for UIC to become Chicago’s college team and the recruiting of players from the Chicago-land area.

Do Good
