MVC Rallies for Rhyan

(St. Louis, MO) – Missouri Valley members are adding their support the ‘Rally for Rhyan’ campaign. Last week I had the chance to ask a couple of coaches about their thoughts on the challenges before Austin Peay Head Coach Dave Loos and his son Missouri Assistant Brad Loos.

Brad’s daughter, Rhyan has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy sessions as I type these sentences. Rhyan is 5-years-old and there have been numerous fund-raising efforts in the hopes of aiding Brad and Jen’s family with medical costs and rallying emotional and prayerful support.

University of Evansville Head Coach Marty Simmons and Southern Illinois HC Barry Hinson offer their words of encouragement during this trying time and Illinois State guard Devaughn Akoon-Purcell talks about his desire to honor God in all situations.

Numerous events have taken place and there are more to come as support is flying in from all over the college athletic world. During last Thursday’s nationally broadcast Missouri football game, you could see the ‘Rally for Rhyan’ logo on the side-line grass.

If you would like to learn more about Rhyan’s journey or would like to help alleviate the Loos’ financial burdens, they have set up a facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RallyForRhyan/info/?tab=page_info) and a Caring Bridge account. Check those out and get involved. Say your prayers and send your dollars!

We detail Rally for Rhyan in a bit more detail on the Ohio Valley Conference portion of this site.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
