MVC/OVC Week Six Players of the Week

Rose Reaches 1,000 Points

(St. Louis, MO) – Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conference teams are hitting the final part of their non-conference seasons and more stars are emerging. Valley and OVC teams are sorting out their rotations and some are getting healthier just ahead of league play.

This week’s individual player awards are going to players that are making their unique marks on our two leagues.

Ohio Valley Conference

Eastern Illinois’ Yaakema Rose is the OVC’s Co-Player of the Week and the grad student guard is also this week’s Newcomer of the Week. Rose scored 27 points during EIU’s defeat of IUPUI. That performance marked a career high for the 5’9 Missouri St. Louis transfer also eclipsed the 1,000 career-point mark. He collected seven rebounds and four steals during the Panther win.

Tennessee Tech’s Jaylen Sebree emerged last week. During the Golden Eagles’ two contests the 6’7 forward averaged 20.5 points and seven rebounds, while making seven of eleven three-point attempts. This week’s Co-Player of the Week is the OVC’s second best three-point shooter (.490) and fifth best in rebounding (6.4).

Ethan Speaker is the second OVC freshman to grab a second Freshman of the Week award. The Little Rock rookie averaged twelve points and seven boards during the Trojans’ split of two contests. Speaker’s Little Rock teammate Chris Walker is the only other two-time freshman weekly award winner.
