Monumental Day in the Valleys

Massive Shifts On Monumental Day

Three Teams Join Each Valley Conference

(St. Louis, MO) – July 1st brought a massive shift in both the Missouri and Ohio Valley Conferences. It was a monumental day in the Valleys. Three teams joined the Valley (and one left), while three joined the OVC while three left. Crazy days of realignment moved into ‘official status’.

In a bizarre overlap of destinies, Belmont University and Murray State shifted allegiance from the OVC to the Valley. Joining them as new MVC members is Illinois-Chicago. While the Ohio Valley lost two of its most prominant teams, they were replaced by Arkansas-Little Rock and Lindenwood and Southern Indiana universities. Lindenwood and USI are Division 2 teams transitioning into Division 1.

The celebrations were clearly heartfelt.

MVC Championship Sites Set

While those programs are coming and going in the MVC and OVC, the Valley announced its 13 championship sites for next calendar year. Arch Madness, the league’s men’s basketball tournament returns to St. Louis for the thirty-third straight season.

All twelve conference teams will participate in St. Louis and in Moline, Illinois for ‘Hoops In the Heartland’ women’s tournament.

July 1 was an monumental day and each league’s fans are eager to see how these two venerable conferences succeed during these turbulent college sports times.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
