Evansville Great Marcus Wilson

Voices of the Valley – Marcus Wilson

(St. Louis, MO) – Numerous awards, individual accomplishments and conference titles are all part of Marcus Wilson’s resume. The former Evansville star was a two-time all-MVC performer and won the ‘Larry Bird – Player of the Year Award‘ his senior year. However, the humble UE hall-of-famer’s greatest memories revolve around relationships and team accomplishments.

Evansville great Marcus Wilson is the Executive Director of a YMCA in North St. Louis City and still contributing to the good will of others. He helps on some Purple Aces’ broadcasts and this year will be a part of the MVC television package.

His initial memories of his time with coach Jim Crews and those short-sleeve jerseys are about teammates and a conference championship, but I had to ask him about scoring 34 points in an NCAA Tournament game agains Kansas.

Go here to see a few of Wilson’s career accomplishments.

International Experience

Wilson’s career went international, playing in many far away places. For eleven seasons this Evansville great, kept the dream alive. Routinely leading his respective teams in scoring, Wilson played in Venezuela, Israel, Turkey and in virtually every European nation. During his professional career he could be found volunteering for numerous causes, particularly helping patients with leukemia.

Evansville great Marcus Wilson says playing internationally helped him grow both as a leader and as a person.

Starting Over

After eleven years as a globe-trotting basketball player, it became time for a new chapter for this elite level player. As Wilson began to look for work he quickly learned that ‘ex-basketball player’ didn’t qualify him for many jobs and his resume needed updating.

Evansville great Marcus Wilson went from signing autographs to sweeping floors.

What is Marcus Wilson doing now and how is he involved as a ‘Voice of the Valley’? We’ll hear all of that from this Evansville great in Part Two of this interview.
