Commissioner Jackson on the House Settlement

Follow the Money

(St. Louis, MO) – The now world famous ‘House Settlement’ has been finalized. Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Jeff Jackson says Valley leaders have been planning for this change. While ‘power conferences’ were both the defendants and the most affected entities in the settlement, mid-majors like the Valley are not unaffected.

How Does the House Settlement Affect MVC Programs?

The House Settlement will come to MVC sports programs with a ten-year, combined $40 million price tag. Commissioner Jackson says Valley programs are prepared for the changes and that the money will come from various  income streams that will be withheld, rather than making financial payments.

Numerous non-A4 or ‘money conference’ teams are ‘opting in’ on the settlement’s ruling. SIU is the latest MVC university to do so. Commissioner Jackson says ‘opting in’ gives programs more flexibility and perhaps less scrutiny.

When asked about Missouri Valley Conference programs’ scheduling issues, Jackson says he’s confident in the MVC coaches. He believes Valley coaches know what it takes to build schedules that will enhance postseason opportunities.

Jeff Jackson – Strength of the Valley

The Commissioner believes the Valley is uniquely positioned as a healthy, top-ten league in college basketball. He sees the MVC knocking on the door of becoming one of the top six, seven or eight conferences in men’s hoops.
