Belmont’s Casey Alexander

Sustained Excellence in Nashville

(St. Louis, MO) – Belmont has won at least nineteen games for 19 straight seasons. Only Gonzaga, Kansas and San Diego State can also make that claim. If the Bruins win a game at Arch Madness, they will have won twenty games for the fourteenth straight season.

Head coach Casey Alexander played and coached at Belmont under the legendary Rick Byrd. After coaching stints at Stetson and Lipscomb he ‘came home’ and has led the Bruin program for the past five seasons.

The Bruins (19-12, 12-8) play Valparaiso in Thursday’s opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball tournament. We spoke with coach Alexander about the Valley, his team’s transition from the Ohio Valley Conference, his current roster and even a little Cubs/Cardinals rivalry.

The Bruins and Beacons meet at 2:30 p.m. and the game can be heard on St. Louis radio on The Big 550 KTRS. Join Kevin Lehman and me for the game.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
