MVC Milestones

(St. Louis, MO) – With a great class of seniors working their way through their final seasons of basketball, the Missouri Valley Conference seems to see milestones and records fall on a nightly basis.

Wednesday Indiana State’s Devonte Brown became the 37th Sycamore to surpass the 1,000 point mark. He joins teammate Khristian Smith who became # 36 earlier in the season. Brown scored 15 points in ISU’s 68-59 victory over Missouri State.

Wichita State won their tenth straight game 80-54 over Loyola, and star guard Fred VanVleet handed out ten assists. Those helpers lifted his career total to 552 and into tenth place on the league’s all-time leader board. One more steal and the Rockford, Illinois native will become the seventh player in Valley history to hit the 200 theft plateau.

In Northern Iowa’s 68-50 win over Bradley, Panther forward Paul Jesperson scored a career high 28 points, tieing a UNI single game record with eight three point baskets. Teammate Jeremy Morgan posted a career high seven steals and the Panthers connected on a season best 15 three-pointers.

Thursday it is likely that Evansville’s D.J. Balentine will surpass the great Doug McDermott into eighth place on the Valley’s all-time scoring list.

These seniors will have a great celebration at Arch Madness 2016.

Opening round of #ArchMadness is today. The only quarterfinal we know is @UIC_MBB v @RacersHoops tomorrow at 2:30. We look at their contrasting styles heading into the @MVCsports tournament. #FatherHarry

Don't look now, but @BustingBrackets tells us some of the hottest teams coming into #ArchMadness aren't the teams at the top of the bracket. @ValpoBasketball, @SIU_Basketball & @UNImbb shouldn't be overlooked. #FatherHarry

ICYMI: @BelmontMBB & @BradleyUMBB are two of the best at being committed to development and succeeding at the same time. #ArchMadness

Congrats to @RogerPowellJr, @CoachJonny_B & @NdotSmitty being named to the Ben Jobe Award finalist list. Well deserved!
