Snell & Layman Insights of the Braves & Bruins

The Play-by-Play Voices

(Peoria, IL) – We’re in Peoria as Bradley hosts Belmont in a key Missouri Valley Conference game. Dave Snell is the hall-of-fame voice of the Bradley Braves and Steve Layman is in his fifth year announcing Bruin basketball. Prior to the game, I asked Snell & Layman for insights on their two teams.

Snell was preparing to broadcast his 1,475th game. I asked my long-time friend about Arch Madness, this current crop of Braves and about Missouri Valley Conference teams playing in the NCAA Tournament. Bradley (16-9, 9-5) is currently third among six teams vying for one of the five byes available at the conference tournament.

The first place Bruins (22-3, 12-2) have been the class of the league and Layman is enjoying the ride. Heading into the rare Monday night game Belmont is riding a nine-game winning streak. Layman gave us insights into the ‘team first’ mentality and Belmont’s ability to continue to develop players as one of the keys to Casey Alexander’s success.

However, defensive improvement could be the key to Belmont’s special season.

These interviews were conducted prior to the game.
