OVC – Huffman Sweeps Awards

Gamecocks Sweep – Huffman Earns Awards

(St. Louis, MO) – When your team goes to Murray State AND Austin Peay and wins both games, someone is going to win individual awards. Jacksonville State swept the two Ohio Valley Conference powers and Brandon Huffman is that award winner.

Brandon Huffman averaged 18 points and six rebounds during the Gamecocks’ big week. The 6’10 senior scored 16 points in a narrow win at Murray State and the North Carolina transfer scored a career-high 20 points while JSU knocked off APSU.

Huffman is the OVC’s ‘Player of the Week‘ and earned his second ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ award.

Co-Freshmen of the Week

Eastern Kentucky freshman Wendell Green has been known for his outstanding facilitating skills, but this week the 5’11 point guard exploded for 25 points during the Colonels’ (13-2, 7-1) 113-73 win over UT Martin. Green is this week’s ‘Co-Freshman of the Week‘ and it is the third time he has earned the weekly award.

The EKU freshman is the OVC’s leading distributor (5.3 assists per game).

Joining Green is Tennessee State rookie Marcus Fitzgerald. The Tiger freshman had a busy week. TSU played three games and Fitzgerald averaged 19.7 points per game, including a 32-point explosion during a narrow loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

Fitzgerald (13.3 ppg) and Green (13.2) are the OVC’s two leading freshman scorers.

While you're all stirred up about @MissouriStBears leaving the @MVCsports you can get to know @UIC_MBB new coach @RobEhsan who is building the Flames' basketball program.

Since 2000, Missouri State's football team is 101-164. They've accumulated 5 winning seasons, with ONE being better than 6-5. They've accumulated SEVEN seasons of at least 8 losses. Not knocking them for struggling, but to move up for THAT sport has to come with some very good $
