Multiple Awards Flowing In

Some Players Getting Used to Winning

(St. Louis, MO) – Johni Broome is getting used to winning the Ohio Valley Conference’s ‘Freshman of the Week‘ award, but he’s not the only player with multiple accolades being thrown his way. Two other players on this week’s list are also repeat performers.

Co-Players of the Week

Tre King – ekusports.com

Tre King and Ben Sheppard are those other two OVC players with multiple awards flowing in. Eastern Kentucky’s King shares this week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ award with Belmont’s Sheppard. King scored 24 points during EKU’s overtime win at Eastern Illinois. King’s third ‘Player‘ award has him tied with Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor. King is second only to Taylor in both the league’s scoring and rebounding departments.

EKU’s 12-2 start is the team’s best since the 1946-47 season.

Sheppard earned his second ‘Player‘ award by averaging 18.5 points during Belmont’s two road wins. Known as one of the OVC’s top defenders, Sheppard buried eight of 15 long distance shots. During the Bruin win over Tennessee Tech, Sheppard held all-OVC guard Jr. Clay to a one-of-12 shooting performance.

Newcomer

Jacksonville State has multiple awards flowing in. Senior Darian Adams earned JSU’s third straight ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ award. Amanze Ngumezi and Brandon Huffman preceded Adams to this pinnacle. The Troy transfer averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists during the Gamecocks’ two games. His remarkable near triple double (18 points, 9 rebounds and ten assists) against Belmont became his first double-double.

Broome Sweeping Freshman Awards

Morehead State’s Broome picked up his fourth ‘Freshman of the Week‘ award. The 6’10 forward averaged 15 points and seven rebounds during the Eagles’ two-road-win week. Morehead’s 6-2 OVC record is their best start since the 2009-10 campaign.

The Week Ahead

It appears that Austin Peay and Southern Illinois Edwardsville will return to action this week. Austin Peay is set to host Tennessee Tech and SIUE travels to Tennessee State. Both are Thursday games. Belmont (14-1, 8-0) guns for its twelfth straight win when they entertain Eastern Illinois while EKU shoots for its eighth consecutive victory when they host UT Martin.

While you're all stirred up about @MissouriStBears leaving the @MVCsports you can get to know @UIC_MBB new coach @RobEhsan who is building the Flames' basketball program.

Since 2000, Missouri State's football team is 101-164. They've accumulated 5 winning seasons, with ONE being better than 6-5. They've accumulated SEVEN seasons of at least 8 losses. Not knocking them for struggling, but to move up for THAT sport has to come with some very good $
