Larry Bird Statue

(St. Louis, MO) – Larry Bird was so good he seemed to be fifteen feet tall when he played basketball at Indiana State.  Now “Larry the Legend” will forever be 15-feet tall outside the Hulman Center in the form of statue.

It’s all part of ‘Honoring a Legend’ weekend in Terre Haute. Joining the festivities will be some of Larry’s former teammates that made that historic 1979 run to the NCAA championship game against the Magic Johnson led Michigan State Spartans. Adding some sizzle to the event will be former college and pro stars Quinn Buckner and Bill Walton.

The Bird statue will be unveiled on November 9th preceding a mens/women’s basketball double header that afternoon.  People wanting to donate to the ‘Larry Legend Scholarship’ are able to do so through the ISU scholarship offices.

Bird led the greatest era of Sycamore basketball and is an NBA hall-of-gamer because of his sensational career with the Boston Celtics. The Missouri Valley Conference’s player of the year award is named after the Indiana State star.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
