Southern Indiana coach Stan Gouard & Jelani Simmons @ OVC Media Day

Division 1 Era Begins at Missouri

(St. Louis, MO) – Southern Indiana coach Stan Gouard is getting his team ready for Division 1 basketball and the Screaming Eagles open at the University of Missouri. During the leap to ‘big boy basketball’ Gouard loaded his schedule with significant tests.

After Missouri, USI hosts Southern Illinois (Carbondale) and battle Notre Dame (at the Gotham Classic). From there  they get a little break with a game against Loras College. The Atlantic Ten’s Saint Bonaventure hosts the Screaming Eagles and that begins a four game road trip.

Prior to the Ohio Valley Conference season beginning, they get three straight at home with Anderson U, Indiana State and St. Mary’s. In a unique scheduling event, USI plays in the Indiana Classic and will battle IUPUI and Purdue Fort Wayne.

While USI is joining the OVC, the University of Evansville has a new coaching staff and excitement of its own. There is a ‘Basketball Revival in Evansville.

Gouard had to add ten players in the offseason and maybe the biggest addition was Kiyron Powell. The Houston transfer was suspended for the team’s recent exhibition game.

Here is our conversation with Southern Indiana coach Stan Gouard and leading scorer Jelani Simmons.

Isaiah Swope (19), and newcomers Trevor Lakes (17) and Gary Solomon (16) led the Screaming Eagles in scoring during their exhibition win over Midway.

While you're all stirred up about @MissouriStBears leaving the @MVCsports you can get to know @UIC_MBB new coach @RobEhsan who is building the Flames' basketball program.

Since 2000, Missouri State's football team is 101-164. They've accumulated 5 winning seasons, with ONE being better than 6-5. They've accumulated SEVEN seasons of at least 8 losses. Not knocking them for struggling, but to move up for THAT sport has to come with some very good $
