Semifinals @ Coaches vs Cancer!

(St. Louis, MO) – Outstanding players, close games, majestic dunks and more are awaiting us today at the Coaches vs Cancer Holiday Tournament. It is the semifinal day of this annual celebration of great basketball.

There will be eight more basketball games today at Meramec Community College and the final two, the championship semifinals, will be broadcast right here at Valley Hoops Insider!

Perrenial contenders and champions Hazelwood Central and Webster Groves have both reached the final four of the tournament, as has top seeded St. Mary’s and the surging Junior Billikens of Saint Louis U High.

SLUH won the Meramec based tournament four of the first five years of its inception (the first year was 1978), and hasn’t been back to the finals since. Webster has been to the championship game an astounding 14 times, taking the championship trophy home on six occasions.

Hazelwood Central is a more recent addition to the tourney, but has played in the championship game nine times in the last 13 years and the Hawks have been crowned victorious five times.

This is the first year in the tournament for the top seeded Dragons.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
