Road Wins & Streaking Bulldogs

(St. Louis, MO) – Two road teams won in Wednesday’s Missouri Valley Conference play, giving the league three road winners out of five tries this week.

It wasn’t a huge surprise that nationally ranked Northern Iowa (Tuesday) and Wichita State won, but Loyola snapped a five game losing streak with a rare Rambler road win at Missouri State (53-50).

All of the sudden the Drake Bulldogs have won three straight games. They were the only home winner on Wednesday, and are trying to play their way out of a Thursday night date at Arch Madness in St. Louis.

In that Drake’s (&-16)(4-8) win over Southern Illinois (9-15)(2-9), Chris Caird buried a three-point basket with 2.9 seconds left for the winning (63-61) margin. Caird was four of five from downtown, finishing with 12 points. Freshman Reed Timmer led the Bulldogs 19 points.

Wichita State’s win was a nail-biter as they held on for a three point (62-59) win at undermanned Bradley.

The Shockers and Panthers are tied for first place at 10-1. Indiana State and Illinois State are tied for third place with 7-4 records.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
