Harris Out at SIUE

Rebooting After Four Years

Editor: The following is part of a press release from siuecougars.com.

(Edwardsville, IL) – SIUE announced that the contract for Jon Harris will not be renewed. Harris was only the second men’s basketball head coach in its NCAA Division I era.

We want to thank Jon Harris for his efforts on behalf of Cougar basketball for the past four years. We wish Jon well in his future endeavors,” said SIUE Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt.

Harris became the Cougars eighth head coach in program history in April 2015. During his four seasons, the Cougars were 31-88 (.261) overall and 15-53 (.221) in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Hewitt said SIUE will be naming a successor as efficiently as possible.

“We will look for extensive Division I experience under high-quality mentors,” said Hewitt. “We expect to hire an individual who has led a program and demonstrated the strategic skills necessary to compete for championships.”

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
