Farewell Jim Benson

Illinois State Beat Writer Retires

(St. Louis, MO) – Jim Benson’s seventeenth season on the Illinois State Redbirds beat was his last. After spending over 40 years as a sportswriter, the former University of Illinois beat writer has stepped into retirement. We wanted to officially and sadly say ‘farewell Jim Benson’!

We discussed the past, the future and our fun times together. He will be greatly missed at Missouri Valley Conference events, press rooms, media days and much more. Jim is a great writer and a wonderful friend.

Watched this guy carry ten times for 70 yards and two TDs for @FoxHSActivities in a win over Mehlville. Ryan Joggerst is getting looks at linebacker at the next level, but he was great last carrying the ball. Are my friends at @hssportscaravan noticing? #FatherHarry
