Billiken Broadcaster Bob Ramsey

Hall of Famer Discusses this Year’s Team

(St. Louis, MO) – Saint Louis University is 18-1 and undefeated in the Atlantic Ten Conference. Billiken broadcaster Bob Ramsey joins the podcast and tells us this is the deepest and most athletic team he has ever seen. Ramsey is working his fortieth season behind the Billiken play-by-play microphone.

He and broadcast partner Earl Austin Jr have worked together for the past 35 years and bring life, history, knowledge and passion to every Billiken broadcast.

We spoke with Ramsey about the place this SLU team could hold in history, the brilliance of Josh Schertz and the makeup of this very talented team.

He believes center Robbie Avila is the smartest player he has ever seen and that guard Kellen Thames is the ‘per minute best player in the Atlantic Ten.

We asked him to compare current head coach Josh Schertz with legendary coach Rick Majerus.

Among other things, our conversation included the University’s possible interest in joining the Big East. With 12 games left in the regular season there are numerous challenges ahead.

We hope you enjoy our conversation with Billiken broadcaster Bob Ramsey. Head to Valley Hoops Insider Podcasts for an ‘audio-only’ version of this interview.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
