Belmont’s Steve Layman Previews Game 9

Bruins Face Drake

(St. Louis, MO) – Belmont fans and coaches aren’t surprised to be playing in the Arch Madness semifinals, but they are excited. Announcers are no different. Belmont’s Steve Layman tells us the Bruin faithful are also relieved to be playing on Saturday in St. Louis.

After two years of frustration, Friday the Bruins won their first-ever, Missouri Valley Conference postseason tournament game. Casey Alexander’s squad played well in their last two Arch Madness appearances, but dropped narrow decisions. There was a collective ‘sigh of relief’ across Bruin nation when Friday’s victory was secured.

Head here for our full report on that game and today’s matchup with Drake.

Our full conversation with Belmont’s Steve Layman can be heard at Valley Hoops Insider Podcasts.

Game time is set for 2:30 (Central) and can be seen on CBS Sports Network.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
