Young A Weekly All-American

Murray State star on USBWA List

(St. Louis, MO) – Murray State’s Katelyn Young is the Missouri Valley Conferences’s third player to receive a ‘National Player of the Week’ award. The Racers’ all-time leading scorer is one of this week’s five weekly all-Americans honored by the United States Basketball Writers’ Association.

Each week the USBWA honors five ‘Ann Meyers Drysdale all-American’ honors.

Young averaged 29 points during the Racers’ two most recent victories, including 33 points against Indiana State.

She joins Northern Iowa’s Maya McDermott and Drake’s Katie Dinnebier as USBWA weekly award winners. Young’s staggering 2,660 career points and 1,115 rebounds make her one of the MVC’s all-time great players. Dinnebier (1,698) will reach 1,700 career points this week, joining McDermott (1,705) at that level.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
