UNI Hires Kyle Green
Former UNI Assistant
(St. Louis, MO) – That didn’t take long. Ben Jacobson held a farewell press conference at Northern Iowa on Monday and UNI hires Kyle Green on Wednesday. It was rumored and we speculated that Green and current assistant Seth Tuttle would be the top candidates for the job.
Green made three assistant coaching stops in Cedar Falls and was a part of the some the greatest moments in Panther history. While working with Jacobson, the team participated in four NCAA Tournaments and fought their way to the 2010 Sweet Sixteen. When Green and Jacobson were on the same staff, the Panthers went a combined 290-175.
Most recently Green has worked at Iowa State. During his five years in Ames the Cyclones participated in the NCAA Tournament all five seasons and reached the Sweet Sixteen three different seasons. This season just ended with a Sweet Sixteen run and 29-8 record.
(My recent conversation with Green)
Green has several years of head coaching experience at lower collegiate levels.
His son, A.J. Green starred at UNI and is currently playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. The two-time Larry Bird Award winner is averaging a career-best 9.7 points-per-game in his fourth NBA season. Green is a career 40 percent shooter from long distance.
Northern Iowa has had great success recruiting in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Minnesota native Green, was a big part of that recruiting success. Even this past season’s Iowa State roster included four Wisconsin natives, three from Iowa and one (former Panther Nate Heise) from Minnesota.
There are rumors that Green is speaking with Tuttle about staying on at UNI.
