Missouri Valley

Postseason Primer

(St. Louis, MO) – You better have the remote ready, batteries charged and popcorn popped. The games we care about are coming in a fast and furious fashion tonight.

The highly successful postseason for the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley conferences intensify tonight as four of Our Valley teams are participating in non-NCAA tournament action.

images-5Murray State (29-5) battles Old Dominion (26-7) in quarterfinal action in the National Invitation Tournament. That’s a 6:00 (CT) tip on ESPN2/WatchESPN. The Racers, from the OVC, are trying to make it two straight years of winning a national postseason tournament. They won the College Insider.com Tournament (CIT) last season.

Speaking of the CIT, two other OVC teams are competing in it tonight. Sadly, UT-Martin (20-12) is playing Eastern Kentucky (21-11) in an all-OVC quarterfinal. That game tips at 6:00 pm too, and can be watched at collegeinsider.com.

The OVC is 7-2 in postseason action. No matter who wins the CIT clash, the league will have at least eight postseason wins this year.

Loyola continues their run in the College Basketball Invitational. The Ramblers (21-13) host Seattle University (18-15) in the semifinals of the CBI. That game tips at 7:00 and can be seen on ESPN3. The MVC is 8-2 in postseason play. Two other league teams are still alive as Wichita State plays their Sweet 16 game of the NCAA tournament, and Evansville plays their quarterfinal CIT game Thursday night.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
