OVC & MVC Represent in Mid Major Top 25

(St. Louis, MO) – The Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conferences are well represented in the latest College Insider Mid Major Top 25. Three MVC and two OVC squads made this week’s rankings.

Missouri Valley Conference

Wichita State (12-3, 2-0) has won three straight games and seven of their last eight and they find themselves third behind Gonzaga and UT Arlington. WSU is also 24th in the latest Ken Pomery efficiency ratings.

The Valley’s other two undefeated (in league play) teams Illinois State (10-4, 2-0) and Missouri State (11-4, 2-0) join the Shockers in Angelo Lento’s site’s rankings. The Redbirds and Bears have each won three straight and six of their seven games. ISU is 16th among mid major teams and MSU is 23rd. Illinois State is 55th and Missouri State 108th nationally at kenpom.com.

Illinois State has the best RPI (40th) in the Valley, and they face off with the Bears on Wednesday.

Ohio Valley Conference

Tennessee State won their first six games, but have struggled since the streak was halted. The Tigers (9-5, 0-1) have dropped two straight games but are ranked 20th in the latest mid major poll.

Belmont struggled early but has seemingly righted the ship, winning three-in-a-row, including their first league game. The Bruins (7-4, 1-0) are 121st in Pomeroy’s ratings, 19 spots in front of TSU. Meanwhile, the Tigers own the best RPI (101st) in the OVC.

Evansville and Loyola from the Valley are teams that are in that ‘others receiving votes’ category.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
