MVC – McCarty Suspended

Editor: The following is a press release from gopurpleaces.com.

(Des Moines, IA) – Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Doug Elgin has announced that University of Evansville head men’s basketball coach Walter McCarty has been suspended for Saturday’s game at UNI following comments McCarty made that were critical of the officiating on the postgame radio show following Wednesday’s game at Drake.

I accept full responsibility for what happened, I know the referees have a tough job and I let my emotions get the best of me,” McCarty said.  “I apologize to the referees, the MVC and the University of Evansville community and our team.  This is not the way I want to represent those groups and will use this as a learning tool for myself going forward.”

McCarty will miss Saturday evening’s road game at UNI in Cedar Falls.  He will be back on the sideline next week when the Aces return home to face Bradley on Wednesday evening.

Editor: Here is the post game quote.

Tonight was unreal. The officiating sucked tonight. Very inconsistent. It’s a shame. I know we were picked to finish last in this conference, but it doesn’t give you the authority to treat our kids like that.”

McCarty added, “I haven’t seen anything like it this season. The calls are so inconsistent it’s unreal.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
