Murray State Looking for Momentum

One-on-One with Steve Prohm

(St. Louis, MO) – For eight Missouri Valley Conference teams this has been a season of looking for momentum. The Valley’s top four teams seem to have found their rhythm, but the bottom eight are looking for important consistency heading towards Arch Madness.

Wednesday night, the Murray State Racers face the Southern Illinois Salukis. The 6:00 pm game was originally supposed to be played in Murray, Kentucky but has been moved to Carbondale due to storm-related electrical problems in Kentucky.

We spoke with Murray State coach Steve Prohm before his team’s rescheduled Monday night game with Northern Iowa (for the same reasons) and before we knew Wednesday’s game would be moved.

Prohm’s team had won two straight games. Murray State is 13-14 and one of five MVC teams tied for sixth place at 7-9. SIU is one of the others. The Racers won the previous meeting, 74-64 in Carbondale. Former Saluki A.J. Ferguson scored a season-high 22 points against his former team.

Here is our conversation with Steve Prohm.

We spoke with SIU head coach Scott Nagy about how his team is looking for momentum.

Others Looking for Momentum

Evansville, Indiana State and Illinois State are the other 7-9 teams. While Illinois State hosts Bradley, the Purple Aces and Sycamores meet Wednesday night. That game tips at 6 pm on local GTN Stations and Matrix Midwest in St. Louis.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
