Morehead Joins Bluegrass Showcase

Editor: The following is a portion of a press release from msueagles.com.

(Morehead, KY) – The Morehead State men’s basketball program is set to open its 2020-21 season at Rupp Arena.

The Eagles will be in the four-team Bluegrass Showcase, along with host Kentucky, Richmond and Detroit Mercy. The Bluegrass Showcase is produced by the Gazelle Group and the University of Kentucky. The event will follow all NCAA and conference health and safety protocols and will be a safe, controlled environment/bubble for its participants.

Morehead State’s schedule for the event is:

Wednesday, Nov. 25 vs. Kentucky at 6 p.m. ET
Friday, Nov. 27 vs. Richmond at 9 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 29 vs. Detroit Mercy at 4 p.m.

The MSU-UK game is scheduled to air on the SEC Network, while TV arrangements are not set for the other two contests.

We are excited to get the season kicked off in general, especially with all the things that have happened over the last eight months,” said head coach Preston Spradlin.” The fact we get to stay in-state at Kentucky right up the road and be in a true bubble setting like they’ve created is really pretty special. Our guys follow the NBA closely, and now we are going to take some things from their games and their playoffs that worked safely and be a part of that similar setting.”

Morehead State has faced the Wildcats, who are in the top 10 in many preseason college basketball polls, 10 times in program history. The latest official matchup was on Nov. 21, 2012.

Morehead State has faced the Richmond Spiders, also in many preseason top 25 polls, only once – in the third round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament in Denver, Colo. After upsetting fourth-seed Louisville, the Eagles fell to the 12th-seeded Spiders 65-48 on March 19, 2011. MSU and Detroit have never met in men’s basketball.

Morehead State’s Ohio Valley Conference schedule was announced Thursday. The remainder of the schedule, as well as tip-off times, are to be announced.

While you're all stirred up about @MissouriStBears leaving the @MVCsports you can get to know @UIC_MBB new coach @RobEhsan who is building the Flames' basketball program.

Since 2000, Missouri State's football team is 101-164. They've accumulated 5 winning seasons, with ONE being better than 6-5. They've accumulated SEVEN seasons of at least 8 losses. Not knocking them for struggling, but to move up for THAT sport has to come with some very good $
