More MVC Post Season Wins

citlogoSt. Louis, MO – Missouri Valley teams keep cranking out post season wins. Evansville and Northern Iowa were both CollegeInsider.com Tournament winners on Tuesday and have reached the semi-finals of that post season event.

Evansville’s Colt Ryan broke his school’s all-time scoring record in a big way on Tuesday. The Senior from Batesville, Indiana needed eight points to match Larry Humes’ record of  2,236 and blasted on by Mr. Humes with 39 points sparking the Purple Aces to a 84-83 win at Canisius. Ryan, who owns his high school’s all-time scoring record, now stands at number one on the Evansville list with 2,267 points.

The Aces trailed by nine points at the half and led by Ryan’s 30 second half points prevailed and earned a birth in the CIT semi-finals. Coach Marty Simmons’ team is now 21-14 and have won three straight games. They await word on their semi-final match up.

Five different UNI players scored in double figures as the Panthers knocked off Valley rival Bradley 90-77. Senior Anthony James, who earlier in the day had been named to the second team all District team by the NABC led the way with 21 points.  The St. Louis native (Normandy High School) is finishing his career with a flourish. The other double digit performers were Seth Tuttle (19), Jake Koch (14), Marc Sonnen (13) and Deon Mitchel (10).

Bradley (18-17) had four players reach that double figure mark.  Walt Lemon Junior led the Braves with 19 points followed by Will Egolf (17), Tyshon Pickett (16) and Dyricus Sims-Edwards (11). Coach Geno Ford’s team led by ten points in the first half, but a 13-4 Panther run in the second half was decisive.

The Panthers have won three post season, Division 1 games for the first time in history and James’ 21 points moved him to tenth on the UNI all-time scoring list with 1,311 points. Nine of Sonnen’s 13 points came on three point baskets and the Senior has now made 200 treys during his Panther career.  He is third on that all time list, trailing only Ben Jacobson (203) & Johnny Moran (201).

UNI is 21 & 14 and will host one of the CIT semi-finals on Saturday.

The Missouri Valley Conference has now posted 11 post season tournament wins and three losses. Wichita State remains active in the NCAA tournament, so the MVC will have at least three chances to tie the league’s all time mark of 12 post season wins. The Shockers take on La Salle in a ‘Sweet 16’ game on Thursday.
