UNI Falls to Third While Others Climb

(St. Louis, MO) – Northern Iowa is third in the latest ‘Men’s Mid Major Top 25’ and Loyola, Belmont, Murray State and Austin Peay are climbing in the latest poll. Gonzaga continues to reign in the ‘MM Top 25’, but Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conference teams display prominently.

After losing to Loyola, UNI (22-4, 11-3) dropped from second to third in the latest poll by collegeinsider.com. The Ramblers’ (18-9, 9-5) victory catapulted them from a team ‘receiving votes’ to twentieth. Fellow MVC team Bradley (18-9, 9-5) is 28th as the third best team ‘receiving votes’.

OVC teams Belmont and Austin Peay also climbed in the latest poll, while Murray State dropped one spot. Belmont (20-7, 11-3) is 16th, the Racers (19-7, 12-2) are 17th and the Governors (18-9, 12-2) climbed from 22nd to 19th.

Southern Illinois Carbondale, has received one vote.

Measurements Beyond the Mid Major Top 25

Current bracketology from CBSSports.com has Northern Iowa representing the Valley as ten seed and Murray State as a 16. No OVC team is receiving votes in the nation-wide Coaches Poll. UNI does receive votes and would be 32nd.

The Panthers are currently number 40 in the NCAA Evaluation Tool. Loyola comes in at 94 and Bradley at 103. Belmont improved its NET ranking to 105, while Murray State stayed steady at 133 and Austin Peay held at 144.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
