Illinois State Announcer Hanging Up His Headsets

Dick Luedke Retiring

(St. Louis, MO) – Dick Luedke is one of the nicest men that I have met. The Illinois State play-by-play man is retiring. It makes us happy for him and sad for us that he is hanging up his headsets.

While treasuring his role as a conduit between the basketball program and the fan base, Dick believes it is time to step back and spend more time with his family. At some point this month he will announce his last Redbird basketball game.

The Redbirds play Indiana State on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

During our conversation, Luedke talked about his fondness for former head coach Dan Muller and fellow Missouri Valley Conference play-by-play guys. Enjoy our conversation with Dick Luedke here, or listen to it at Valley Hoops Insider Podcasts.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
