How Do Valley Teams Measure Up?

(St. Louis, MO) – There are probably too many measuring sticks for college basketball teams. But like everybody else, we’ll attempt to evaluate them too. So how do Valley teams measure up? We’re comparing the brand new NCAA Evaluation Tool, KenPom’s rankings and the ‘old school’ RPI.

  • Southern Illinois is the only Valley team in the top 100 in all three metrics
  • Loyola (KenPom) and Indiana State and Drake (RPI) have top 100 rankings
  • Seven total teams rank in the top 200. Valpo, Missouri State & Evansville are the bottom 3

The NET changes often and is a combination of several factors.

The NCAA Evaluation Tool, which will be known as the NET, relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses.” (NCAA.org)

Here are the combined rankings.

  • Team ~ KenPom ~ RPI ~ NET ~ AVG
  • SIU ~ 97 ~ 72 ~ 81 ~ 83
  • Loyola ~ 77 ~ 133 ~ 101 ~ 104
  • IN ST ~ 138 ~ 95 ~ 103 ~ 122
  • Drake ~ 175 ~ 69 ~ 108 ~ 117
  • Bradley ~ 127 ~ 126 ~ 156 ~ 136
  • IL ST ~ 150 ~ 175 ~ 199 ~ 175
  • UNI ~ 178 ~ 168 ~ 228 ~ 191
  • MO ST ~ 206 ~ 228 ~ 194 ~ 209
  • Valpo ~ 157 ~ 281 ~ 210 ~ 216

November 13 @SIUEMBB will be playing at Duke. @baronecoach talks about the excitement level he and his Cougars have in playing at Cameron Indoor.

Watched this guy carry ten times for 70 yards and two TDs for @FoxHSActivities in a win over Mehlville. Ryan Joggerst is getting looks at linebacker at the next level, but he was great last carrying the ball. Are my friends at @hssportscaravan noticing? #FatherHarry
