First Time Weekly Winners

(St. Louis, MO) – Two more first time weekly winners were honored by the Missouri Valley Conference. There have been eight different ‘Player of the Week’ winners and six different ‘Newcomers of the Week’.

Player of the Week

Holiday weeks and semester breaks thin team’s playing schedules. In Northern Iowa’s only game senior Wyatt Lohaus contributed 23 points during the Panthers’ loss to Stony Brook. The 6’2 senior connected on a season high nine field goal attempts, making five of nine shots from long distance. Lohaus is one of eight first time weekly winners of the ‘Player of the Week’ award.

Newcomer of the Week

Ryan Fazekas – valpoathletics.com

Valparaiso’s Ryan Fazekas became the sixth player to be named ‘Newcomer of the Week’ for scoring 19 points in the Crusaders’ win over Purdue Northwest. The Providence transfer added five rebounds and he too, wen five of nine from long distance.

Drake’s Nick Norton is one of the eight different players to win the weekly ‘Player of the Week’ award and has won the ‘Newcomer’ honor three times. He is the only MVC player with multiple awards.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry
