Final ‘Stars of the Valleys’

(St. Louis, MO) – The final week of the regular season for our ‘valley’ conferences was an exciting one and brought us great performances by the particular ‘players of the week’.
Unknown-1Loyola’s Christian Thomas (Clayton High School – St. Louis) averaged a double-double (20.5 points and 10 rebounds as the Ramblers won their final two games. In so doing, Loyola qualified for the quarter-finals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. ‘Arch Madness’ begins in St. Louis on Thursday.

Bellarmine University set a regular season, school record with 25 wins and they were sparked to those final two wins by senior forward Jake Thelen. The 6’7″ forward scored 33 points in the Knights’ win over Southern Indiana. Bellarmine is the number one seed in this week’s Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament. This is the third time this season Thelen was named GLVC ‘player of the week’.

There were two players sharing this week’s Ohio Valley Conference honors. Fittingly those players come from the league’s top two teams. Eastern Kentucky’s Corey Walden and Murray State’s Cameron Payne are the clear favorites in player of the year honors and share the weekly award this time. For Payne it is his fifth such honor and it is Walden’s fourth.

I haven't heard, nor do I know, how does this apply to the typical 'foreign' basketball player that is most often over 19?

Obviously, this is a sentimental and not a ‘spreadsheet’ notion, but would hate to see @MVCsports change the #ArchMadness format from the traditional ‘family reunion’ feel by cutting teams from the experience. #FatherHarry

Congrats to @ISURedbirdGolf. T.J. Barger sets a school record. Pietro Pontiggia records the Redbirds' second-ever top 20 finish at a regional. The team finishes tent in the region which is tied for the program's best regional finish! #FatherHarry
