Explosive Play Earns Weekly Honors

Taylor Explodes for Austin Peay

(St. Louis, MO) – Terry Taylor’s amazing performance and explosive play highlighted this week’s outstanding play by Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conference players. The OVC’s preseason player of the year had a game that few players even dream of.

In both the OVC and MVC there have been numerous outstanding achievements. While Taylor’s was a unique performance, other players performed in a way to be truly noticed.

Ohio Valley Conference

Taylor scored 37 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in Austin Peay’s win over Southeastern Louisiana. He scored 13 points and hauled in seven rebounds in the Governors’ loss to Vanderbilt. This week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ leads the OVC in scoring (23 ppg) and rebounding (9.4 per game).

A pair of OVC players share this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ awards. UT Martin sophomore Parker Stewart earned a share of the award for the second straight week. He scored 22 points in the Skyhawks’ only game of the week. The 6’5 guard is averaging 15.4 points per game.

The other half of the award belongs to Eastern Kentucky’s Ty Taylor. The UNC Wilmington senior transfer averaged 16 points and 5.3 rebounds during the Colonels’ three games. Taylor earned all-tournament honors in the ‘Battle of the Capital’ tournament. The 6’3 guard is fourth in the league in three pointers (Parker is third), making 2.6 per game.

Jordyn Adams pulled in his second straight ‘Freshman of the Week‘ award. Austin Peay’s prized recruit demonstrated some explosive play by scoring 25 points against Vanderbilt and 16 against Southeastern Louisiana. The OVC’s leading rookie scorer is fifth overall, averaging 16.6 points per game.

Trae Berhow – unipanthers.com

Northern Iowa is 6-0 and one reason is the explosive play of Trae Berhow. The 6’5 junior went off for 36 points against UT Martin and then added 20 during a win over Cornell. Berhow connected on a UNI record eight three-pointers against the Skyhawks and is the Valley’s ‘Player of the Week‘.

The explosive play of Gaige Prim has been a shot in the arm for the Missouri State Bears. In his first significant playing time of the season, Prim scored 18, 19 and 21 points. The 6’8 junior college transfer is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ and didn’t start a game. He converted 62% of his shots from the field and nailed 10 of 14 from the line.
