OVC On The Rise

(St. Louis, MO) – Is the Ohio Valley Conference at league that is on the rise?  Many inside the league believe so and now the nation is starting to notice.  Judging by the respected RPI, the OVC was number 16 that is right in the middle of the 33 conferences.

The NBA is noticing too.  Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan, Tennessee State’s Robert Covington and Belmont’s Ian Clark all signed with Association teams this summer Kenneth Faried was there waiting for them. According to RealGM.com the OVC ranks 11th among Division 1 conferences of total number of players on this season’s opening night rosters.

Dickey Nutt is the Head Coach at Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) and his Redhawks are a favorite to unseat Murray State at the top of the OVC West Division.

Nutt’s team is sparked by pre-season ‘player of the year’ Tyler Stone.  Nutt believes recent league success has put the Ohio Valley Conference on the national map.

Under Nutt’s leadership the Redhawks have both improved their win totals and their team RPI every season. Their front court of Nino Johnson and Stone will be the envy of the league.

In addition to the rugged OVC schedule, SEMO’s non-conference schedule includes an opener at Saint Louis University and hosting Tulane in November, trips to Memphis and Missouri State in December and late January tilt with UMKC. Those games and a strong conference record will determine the Redhawks post season fate.
