MVC Sweeps CIT – Out of NIT

WLemonBUKansas City, MO – Missouri Valley Conference teams sweeping through the CollegeInsider.Com Tournament, but have been eliminated from the National Invitation Tournament.

Bradley and Northern Iowa were victorious in CIT action and Indiana State was bounced from the NIT.  Those CIT wins ran the MVC’s record to 3-0 this season and gave Northern Iowa their fourth straight season with a post season win.

Bradley set all kinds of records in their 75-69 win over Green Bay.  Walt Lemon Junior scored 21 points and placed himself in a  time honored position.

Lemon joins Bradley legend Hersey Hawkins as the only players in MVC history to score 500 points (514), grab 100 rebounds (134), hand out 100 assists (121) and snatch 70 steals (72). Dyricus-Sims Edwards now has 85 steals and he and Lemon have combined for 157 thefts this season breaking the all-time record by two MVC teammates. Snatching the record from Tulsa’s Paul Pressey and Mike Anderson.

The Braves are now 17 and 16 and will host Tulane on Saturday in the CIT’s second round.

Northern Iowa improved to 19 & 14 with a 77-66 win over North Dakota. St. Louisan Anthony James led all scorers with 24 points, while Marc Sonnen hit 5 three pointers and finished tied with Seth Tuttle with 19 points.

The Panthers set a team record with 14 home wins and will have an opportunity to extend that record Saturday when they host a yet to be named opponent on Saturday.

Indiana State’s season came to an end with a frustrating 68 – 52 loss to Iowa. The Sycamores struggled to score and only Justin Gant reached double figures with 16 points. ISU led by as many as eight points in the first half.

Coach Greg Lansing’s team finishes the season with a record of 18-15.
