Editor: The following is part of a press release from goracers.com.

Murray State head men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon announced the hiring of Casey Long who joins the Racers as assistant coach.

Long comes to Murray State after serving on the staff of Coach Will Wade for the past two seasons at VCU (2015-17). Prior to that, he was an assistant at his alma mater, Chattanooga (2012-15).

I am absolutely thrilled with the addition of Casey Long to our coaching staff,” McMahon said. “We’re excited to welcome Casey, his wife Co’chea, and their daughter Catalina to the Murray State family. Casey is a well-rounded coach, an outstanding recruiter, and one of his many strengths is his ability to build relationships with people.  He will have a very positive impact on our players and he will excel in their development, on and off the court.

While at VCU, Long was part of a successful two seasons. In the 2015-16 season, the Rams shared the Atlantic 10 Conference title and in the 2016-17 season, they finished second. In two seasons, VCU was 51-20 overall and 18-8 in the A-10 and made back-to-back NCAA appearances.

Over the last four seasons at VCU and Chattanooga, Casey has been a part of 91 wins with LSU Head Coach Will Wade,” McMahon added. “Casey knows what building a winning culture is all about. His character, energy, and work ethic will be great assets to our program.

As a student-athlete, Long had an amazing career at Chattanooga where he is the only player in program history to finish his career with more than 1000 points, 450 rebounds, and 350 assists.
