4 Teams In ‘the other Tournaments’

Alex Kirk, Hugh Greenwood, Jake OdumST. Louis, MO –  Six teams from America’s Renaissance Conference will be playing post season basketball.  Four of them are playing in ‘the other tournaments.’ Indiana State plays in the National Invitation Tournament and Bradley, Evansville & Northern Iowa are heading to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

It will be Indiana State’s third appearance in the NIT and they will take on Iowa. It is also the Sycamore’s fourth straight season to play post-season basketball. They participated in CIT last year and the NCAA Tournament in 2011.

Coach Greg Lansing says the Sycamores will have their hands full with the Hawkeyes.

Bradley is one of the most improved teams in college basketball.  The Braves won just seven games all last season and find themselves in the CIT this year with a record of 16-16. Head Coach Geno Ford hosts Green Bay on Wednesday. Bradley made it to the title of game of the CIT in 2009.

Ford says he’s happy that Bradley’s seniors get to finish their careers on a positive note.

Northern Iowa is making a habit of playing post-season basketball. The Panthers have played some form of ‘march madness’ for five straight seasons! Head Coach Ben Jacobson’s team stands at 18-14 and host North Dakota.

Head Coach Jacobson says their early season win over NDS won’t have any bearing on this week’s game.

The Purple Aces of Evansville are playing post-season basketball for the third straight year and the fourth time in the past five seasons. Coach Marty Simmons’ team played in the College Basketball Invitational the past two years and participated in the CIT in 2009.  Evansville hosts Tennessee State.

Coach Simmons says Tennessee State is very athletic.
